This ranking was revealed by the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, Spain, on July 25th, 2024. The University of Phayao has consistently maintained its position as one of the top 5 universities in the third group.
In Thailand, there are a total of 192 higher education institutions that are eligible to be ranked by Webometrics. The ranking criteria consists of three indicators:
1. Visibility (impact): This measures the number of links from external sites (subnets) that link to the university’s webpage, accounting for 50% of the overall ranking.
2. Openness: This indicator looks at the number of citations of research work by researchers whose data is in the Google Scholar database, accounting for 10% of the overall ranking.

3. Excellence: This indicator considers the number of papers and cited papers in the SCImago database from 2015 – 2023, accounting for 40% of the overall ranking.
