The 13th Phayao Research, held under the theme of "Frontier Area-Based Research for Sustainable Development Goals," aimed to address the pressing issue of sustainable development in frontier areas

         The University of Phayao recently held its 13th Phayao Research National Academic Conference with the theme of “Frontier Area-Based Research for Sustainable Development Goals.” This conference provided a platform for academic exchange and the creation of a national network to enhance the potential of Thai educational institutions. Its main objective was to promote the dissemination of research and innovation that aligns with the sustainable development goals. The event, which took place from January 24th to 26th, 2024, was held at the 99th Anniversary Building of Phra Upali Kunupamajarn (Puang Thammapanyo) at the University of Phayao.


        Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Phongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, outlined the objectives of the event, emphasizing the University’s annual organization of the Phayao Research National Academic Conference. This marks the 13th iteration of the conference, providing a platform for presenting research across various disciplines, including health sciences, science and technology, humanities, and social sciences. The overarching goal is to apply research findings to achieve social and environmental benefits for sustainability while enhancing economic capacity in a competitive global landscape. The 13th Phayao Research National Conference, with the theme of “Frontier Area-Based Research for Sustainable Development Goals,” serves as an academic forum for exchanging knowledge and creating a national network to develop the potential of Thai educational institutions. It aims to promote the dissemination of research and innovation that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, with the ultimate goal of revitalizing the economy and society and driving the country forward.


        Special Professor Atthaphon Yaisawang, President of the Office of the University of Phayao Council, delivered the opening speech at the 13th Phayao Research National Academic Conference. He emphasized that this conference provides a valuable opportunity for professors, researchers, and students from various institutions to share their research findings and innovations in different fields. This aligns with the University of Phayao’s mission of “Wisdom for Community Empowerment” and its goal of elevating the country to an international level. The theme of this conference, “Frontier Area-Based Research for Sustainable Development Goals,” serves as a mechanism to drive the university towards its vision of becoming a “Frontier Area-Based University.” By fostering collaboration and integration among different institutions, this conference aims to utilize research and innovation for the betterment of the economy, society, and environment, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.


        The University of Phayao has implemented a hybrid format for presenting work at their academic conference, which includes both Onsite Conference presentations at the university and Online Conferences. This format has generated a great deal of interest among researchers who wish to participate and present their work at the event. A total of 160 submissions have been received, covering a wide range of topics and divided into the following categories:

1. Health Science Group: 19 works

2. Science and Technology Group: 103 works

3. Humanities and Social Sciences Group: 38 works         

There are a variety of activities planned for the upcoming event, including exhibitions such as the University of Phayao Exhibition Competition for the “1 Faculty 1 Innovation Community” project. In addition, there will be a special lecture on “Innovation for Smart City: A Model City of Mae Hia Subdistrict Municipality” and a small symposium on climate change and net zero carbon tourism. This event marks the first time that awards will be given to researchers, with the aim of boosting morale and recognition for their work.

The awards will be given in four categories: (list the four categories here).

1. “1 Faculty 1 Innovation Community” project award for the year 2022.

2. Award for outstanding researchers with the highest published results in international databases in 2022, divided into groups: Health Science Group, Science and Technology Group, and Humanities and Social Sciences Group.

3. Award for researchers who create commercial and community benefits, as well as recognition for academic services to society.

4. Awards for outstanding research presentations in the Oral Presentation and Poster Presentation sections.
