University of Phayao, Equitable Education Fund, World Bank and other Provincial Groups join hands in Work Readiness Project: Exploring and Developing Youth and Adult Working Age Readiness in Thailand.

University of Phayao, Equitable Education Fund, World Bank and other Provincial Groups join hands in Work Readiness Project: Exploring and Developing Youth and Adult Working Age Readiness in Thailand.

The University of Phayao, in collaboration with Equitable Education Fund (EEF), the World Bank, Phayao Provincial Administrative Organization, Phayao Provincial Statistical Office and Phayao Provincial Education Office are collecting data for youth and adult assessments from Phayao participants between the ages of 15 to 65. This information is used specifically for assisting in formulating and publishing skills development policies for stakeholders in education.      Presently, the labor situation in Thailand is quite worrisome. There exists a growing labor skills gap between Thailand and foreign countries. Studies show that many Thai workers lack the necessary skills to match the needs of employers. A recent study by the World Economic Forum found that Thai workers lag behind in important advanced skills and showed that highly skilled employment totaled a dismal 14.40%.

On September 20, 2023, the University of Phayao President, Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Phongsabangpho assigned Professor Dr. Samur Thanoi, Vice President for Research and Innovation, Associate Professor Dr. Phanintra Teeranon, Assistant to the President, and Assistant Professor Dr. Ammares Thepma, Project Leader of the Institute of Innovation and Technology Transfer (City Unit) to welcome the working  team led by Mr. Koji Myanmoto, Senior Economist of the World Bank, Mr. Patanapongs Sukmadan, Assistant Manager of Equitable Education Fund and Miss Thanthida Wongprasong, Director of Promote Innovation and Education to the Phayao Provincial Administrative Organization Conference Room to discuss the project: Exploring and Developing Youth and Adult Working Age Readiness in Thailand, specifically the situation in Phayao Province.

Also, in attendance were Ms. Yapa Witnalakorn, representative from the Phayao Provincial Administrative Organization, Mr. Asadakorn Chatranan, Secretary to the President of the Phayao Provincial Administrative Organization, representatives from the Phayao Provincial Statistical Office and the Autistic Parents Club. The main objectives of this project are to discuss operational guidelines, introduce members of the central working group from the World Bank and the EEF and to present information and reports on the situation in Phayao Province.  Furthermore, the working groups decided on the appropriate processes, surveying tools and implementation means for different local communities in Phayao Province.

Importantly, the project surveys and develops youth and adult readiness for the working population in Phayao Province.    This event was organized by the provincial government on 20th and 21st of September, 2023 and included visits to different Phayao communities and a ceramics workshop activity at Ban Din Kham Pu Ju and visit to Wat Sri Umong Kham Pinitprasat School.
